You can introduce Landforms and Bodies of Water at the same time, or choose to split this into two different lessons. The Introduce Landforms page has resources and suggestions that include bodies of water.
Tech Idea: Use Google Earth to view landforms. Students can open Google Earth in Computer Lab and locate landforms. You will need to give them some specific names i.e. Mount Everest, Niagara Falls, Lake Michigan, etc.
2. Compare Landforms (1 day)
Choose two landforms and compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram. Download Blank Venn Diagram here
3. Compare Bodies of Water (1 day)
Choose two bodies of water or a body of water and a landform to compare and contrast. You may use a Venn Diagram or choose another format to compare and contrast. Resources: http://writingfix.com/WAC/Comparison_Contrast.htm
4. Research a Landform or Body of Water. (3- 5 days)
Each student chooses one landform or body of water to research.The students will write five facts about their topic and add an illustration. (Also fulfills writing expectation)
The attached document takes the student through the research process step by step. It is a Word document which means it can be edited and tailored as the teacher sees fit.
5. Create a topographical map. (3-D salt dough map) (5 days) Detailed Directions will be provided.
